1982 World’s Fair, Knoxville, Tennessee

This was the first time that “Red China” exhibited in a World’s Fair, and its pavilion was arguably the highlight of the fair. I’ve been told the terracotta warriors from the tomb of Qin Shihuang were, in fact, reproductions, but the craftsmanship exhibited there was outstanding. The display of circus miniatures was pretty impressive as well. Overall, the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair and Expo 67 in Montreal were bigger and more impressive, but my photos from those fairs are in storage somewhere. Photos by Gary L. Niagara Falls & Fort Niagara

Most of my photos are historic in nature, but these are mostly scenic views of Niagara Falls, which sits on the border between Niagara, New York, and Ontario, Canada. It’s one of America’s top scenic attractions. Photos by Gary L. Todd, Ph.D., Professor of History, Sias International University, Xinzheng, Henan, China. http://picasaweb.google.com/GaryLeeTodd/NiagaraFallsFortNiagara#

Mount Rushmore & Badlands of South Dakota

In a departure from my usual historic photos, these are mainly scenic pictures of the southwest corner of South Dakota. Enjoy the rugged beauty. Photos by Gary L. America’s West Coast: California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska

These are mostly scenic photos of West Coast states: California, Oregon, Washington, & Alaska. The faded photos date from 1976. The Alaska photos are from a layover during a flight from China to America in 1991. I took the Mount Saint Helen’s photos just after learning my dad had passed away in 2000, so my heart wasn’t really into the photography then. My son Marcus was in Army Language School in Monterey in 2006 when we visited there, and the Sequoia National Forest photos were taken shortly afterward when we visited Amy’s cousin and her family. Colorado Rocky Mountains

These are mostly scenic photos of the Colorado Rockies. In the 1970s I worked sometimes at a camp (Bear Trap Ranch) in the mountains near Colorado Springs. Cripple Creek and Victor were old gold mining towns at a fairly high elevation (nearly 3 km). Garden of the Gods has some pretty amazing rock formations. Photos by Gary L. St. Louis, Missouri

St. Louis was the starting point of the Lewis & Clark Expedition, and the “Gateway to the West.” The St. Louis Arch commemorates this. Photos by Gary L. Hawaii, the “Big Island”: Historic and Scenic Places

These photos were all taken on the Big Island of Hawaii, mostly showing historic religious and political sites. I also have photos of a recent lava flow and up-close shots of whales. I took the photos in 2003. I have additional albums for Oahu and Kauai. Photos by Gary L. Todd, Ph.D., Professor of History, Sias International University, Xinzheng, Henan, China. http://picasaweb.google.com/GaryLeeTodd/HawaiiTheBigIslandHistoricAndScenicPlaces#

Kauai: Hawaiian Islands Garden Isle

These photos were all taken on the “Garden Island” of Kauai, mostly showing beautiful scenery. Many were taken from a helicopter. Some of these sites should be familiar, as they were featured in a number of movies and television shows. I took the photos in 2000. I have additional albums for Oahu and Hawaii, the “Big Island.” These albums show more historic places, and can be found in the United States Historic Sites category. Photos by Gary L. Todd, Ph.D., Professor of History, Sias International University, Xinzheng, Henan, China. http://picasaweb.google.com/GaryLeeTodd/Kauai#

Walt Disney World

This is Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, and Disney Studios in Orlando, Florida, taken in summer, 2009, unless otherwise noted. Amy Todd appears in many of these. I have added digital copies of older photos from visits in the 1980s & 1990s, along with a few from Disneyland California in 1976. Photos from Hong Kong Disney appear in my Hong Kong album. Arizona: Grand Canyon

In June, 1971, I began hitch-hiking across America from Phoenix, Arizona. This album shows the first part of my journey, from Tempe up to the Grand Canyon, where I hiked down the South Rim and up the North Rim before resuming my hitching-hiking. I spent a week at the bottom. Regrettably, I only had one roll of BW film for the whole trip. The color photos were taken from a jet while on my way to China in 1991. Photos by Gary L. Todd, Ph.D., Professor of History, Sias International University, Xinzheng, Henan, China. http://picasaweb.google.com/GaryLeeTodd/ArizonaGrandCanyon#
